Using a Reference URL to Match Your Brand

Overview

When you generate a page with the AI page builder, you can include a URL from your existing website directly in your prompt. The AI reads that page, extracts your brand colors, fonts, logo, and content, and uses all of it to build a page that matches your existing look and feel — no manual brand setup required.

How to Provide a Reference URL

  1. Open the AI page builder from the Dashboard or the Publish Page button.
  2. In the prompt bar, type your description and include your website's URL anywhere in the text. For example:
    • "A landing page for my yoga studio — here's our site: https://example.com"
    • "Rebuild this as a lead capture page: https://example.com/services"
  3. Press Enter or click Suggest. The AI reads the URL in the background and shows a reference card in the chat.

The Reference Card

Once the AI has read your URL, a reference card appears showing the page title, description, and what brand data was found. The card may show one or more of these indicators:

  • brand colors hinted — primary, secondary, accent, and background colors were detected and will be offered to the AI as style hints.
  • fonts hinted — heading and body fonts from your site were detected.
  • logo extracted — a logo was identified and will be placed in the generated page's navigation.

You can dismiss the reference at any time before generating — click the dismiss button on the card. The page will then be built from your written description alone. You can also re-enable it by clicking use.

What the AI Does with Your Reference

When you generate with a reference URL active, the AI uses your site as the source of truth for what the page is about — its services, tone, and language — while applying your chosen creative direction for layout and style. Specifically:

  • Brand colors and fonts are offered to the AI as hints. The AI honors them when they fit the creative direction.
  • Logo: If a logo was detected, the AI rehosts it to your page's assets and places it in the navigation. If no logo was found, the AI uses your company name as a styled text wordmark in the nav instead of inventing a logo.
  • Real site images: When your site has photos (hero images, product photos, headshots), the AI attempts to reuse them in matching slots rather than generating new ones, keeping your page on-brand and reducing generation time.
  • Content: Section headings, descriptions, and copy are grounded in what your reference page says. The AI will not invent product details or testimonials not suggested by the reference.

If the URL Can't Be Reached

If the AI cannot load or read the URL you provided, an amber warning notice replaces the reference card:

Couldn't load [your-domain] — building without your site

We couldn't reach or read that URL, so this page won't use your brand colors, fonts, content, or logo from it. It will be built from your written description alone. You can still generate, or edit your prompt and try again.

You can proceed with generation from your prompt text, or update the URL in your prompt and generate again.

Common reasons a URL may not be reachable:

  • The site requires a login or is behind a firewall.
  • The URL has a typo or redirects to a page the crawler can't access.
  • The site blocks automated requests.

Tips for Best Results

  • Use your homepage or a page that shows your full brand (logo, colors, key content).
  • Pair the reference URL with a clear prompt describing how you want the page adapted — for example, "rewrite for a younger audience" or "modernize the layout."
  • If you have a Brand Kit set up, combining it with a reference URL gives the AI even more brand context.
