Leadpages helps you build high-converting landing pages, websites, pop-ups, and blogs, no coding required. This article walks you through creating your first page.
There are two ways to get started:
- Build with Piper: Tell Piper, our AI page builder, what you want to make. She asks a few questions and builds the page for you.
- Start without AI: Jump straight into the builder with a blank page or a template and build it yourself.
Both start from the Create button at the top of the sidebar.
Using the Create button
The Create button sits at the top of the sidebar, so you can start something new from anywhere in your account.
- Click Create to open Piper and start building with AI.
- Click the arrow beside Create to choose exactly what you want to make.
The dropdown has two sections.
Create with AI
Pick what you're making and Piper takes it from there:
- Page
- Site
- Pop-up
- Blog
- Ad
Start without AI
Skip the AI and go straight into the builder:
- Blank page: Opens an empty page in the builder so you can build it from scratch.
- From a template: Pick a pre-designed template, then customize it in the builder.
Tip: Starting from a template is the quickest way to get a polished page if you already know the kind of layout you want.
Building with Piper
When you choose to create with AI, you land on Piper's starting screen. Piper greets you and asks what you're building today.
Step 1: Choose what you're making
Pick one of the three options:
- Landing page: One focused page, on its own.
- Website: Start with the homepage, then add the rest of your pages after.
- Blog: Design your blog, then fill it with posts.
Below these, you can also choose Add a page to a site you already have or Write a post for a blog you already have.
Step 2: Describe your page
Next, Piper asks what the page is for. You can click one of the idea chips (Landing Page, Collect Leads, Webinar & Event, Mobile Ad Page, Product Sales Page, or Portfolio), or type your own description in the box at the bottom.
You can type a description, paste a link to an existing page, or paste your page's HTML.
Step 3: Give Piper more to work from (optional)
Above the message box are three menus that give Piper extra context.
Templates
Pick a template to use as the design starting point. Click Preview to see a template, Use to add it to your prompt, or Browse all templates to see the full library.
Your tools
Build a page from a campaign you already run in one of your connected tools. For example, connect Mailchimp, then select one of your Mailchimp campaigns. Piper adds it to your prompt and uses the information from that campaign to build the page.
Available tools include Google Ads, Meta Ads, Shopify, HubSpot, Mailchimp, Klaviyo, ActiveCampaign, and Salesforce. Click Connect to connect a tool, or Select if it's already connected. Tools marked Soon, like Stripe, TikTok Ads, LinkedIn Ads, YouTube, and Notion, are on the way.
Actions
Other ways to get started:
- Upload HTML: Bring an HTML file or paste code you already have.
- Start from scratch: Open an empty page in the builder. No AI, no credits.
- Create a multi-page site: Build a homepage plus the pages around it.
Step 4: Check your settings in the message box
Along the bottom of the message box you'll find a few more controls:
- Page type: Shows what you're building, like Landing page. Click it to change it.
- Brand Kit: Choose which Brand Kit Piper should use for your colors, fonts, and voice, or choose None for no brand.
- Shortcuts: Icons for opening templates, attaching images, attaching files, uploading, connecting your tools, and using your voice to describe your page.
When you're ready, click Send.
Tip: Set up a Brand Kit before you build your first page. Every page Piper creates will match your brand from the start.
How Piper builds your page
Once you send your description, Piper walks you through a few quick choices before she builds anything, so you get a say in the important decisions up front.
1. Piper checks her understanding
Piper shows a Here's what I've got card with your Brief (what you wrote) next to My read (how she understood it). If anything is off, tap it to change it. It's much easier to fix here than after the page is built.
2. Choose your images
Next, Piper asks what to use for images. The card shows an estimate of how many AI credits the whole build will use.
| Option | What it means |
|---|---|
| My own images | Attach your own photos. Piper can generate images for any spots yours don't cover. Your own photos cost nothing to place. |
| Make new images from mine | Send a product or team photo and Piper creates fresh shots of the real thing, not a stock lookalike. |
| Pull them from a URL | Give Piper a page and she'll reuse the photos already on it. |
| Generate images for me | AI-made images. These cost extra credits and will look AI-made. |
| Skip images for now | No pictures. Piper designs the page around text and layout, and you can add your own images in the builder later. |
Tip: Generated images are the biggest part of your credit estimate. Using your own images is the easiest way to keep the cost down.
3. Pick a direction
Next, Piper gives you three design directions created just for your page. Each one shows a small preview, a name, a few words describing the feel (like "inviting, earthy, craft-focused"), and the fonts it uses. The directions differ more in tone and style than in layout, so read the descriptions to find the one that fits.
Click a direction to pick it, or tell Piper what you'd rather see. If you don't want to choose, click Let me choose the look and Piper will work out the style from your description instead of locking in a palette.
Under How far should I push it?, choose how much creative freedom Piper takes with the design:
- Your call: Let Piper decide.
- Stay close: Stick closely to what you described.
- Balanced: A mix of your description and Piper's ideas.
- Push it: Give Piper more room to get creative.
When you're ready, click Build it. The credit estimate for the build is shown right beside the button.
4. Review the plan
Before building, Piper shows The plan: a preview of your page layout, section by section. Each section is labeled (for example Hero, Story, or Features) with a short note on what will go in it, so you can see how the page will come together before any credits are spent on the build.
5. Piper builds the page
Piper gets to work and shows her progress as she writes the copy, adds images, and assembles the page. You don't have to wait to add more ideas. Type anything else you think of while she's building, and she'll fold it into the next pass.
6. Review your page
When the build is done, you'll see a preview of your finished page, marked Draft · not published, along with how many credits it used. From here you can:
- Open in editor: Make changes yourself in the builder.
- Preview: See the full page as visitors will.
- Or build a different page: Start over with a new build.
You can also tell Piper what to change and she'll edit the page directly. That uses far fewer credits than building it again.
7. Decide where your page should live
Piper then asks where the page should live. Your page is a draft until you publish it. You have two options:
- I don't have one yet: Publish to a free address on lpcontent.net. It works right away and costs nothing.
- I have a domain: Piper walks you through pointing your own domain at the page.
Either way, your page goes live. A domain can only point to a published page, so connecting one also publishes your page at the same time.
Tips for getting the best page from Piper
Piper works best when she knows exactly what you want. A few extra details in your first description can save you a lot of editing later.
Be specific about the goal. Tell Piper what you want visitors to do, like sign up for a webinar, download a guide, or buy a product.
Describe your audience. Who is the page for? "Busy parents looking for quick meal ideas" gives Piper much more to work with than "food lovers."
List the sections you want. If you know you need a pricing table, testimonials, or an FAQ, say so.
Share the details. Include your offer, prices, dates, and key benefits so Piper doesn't have to fill in placeholder text.
Mention the look and feel. Describe the style or colors you're going for, like "clean and minimal with soft blues" or "bold and energetic."
Give Piper your real content. Add your own images, pick your Brand Kit, or paste a link to an existing page so she has real material to work from.
Here's the difference a little detail makes:
| Less helpful | More helpful |
|---|---|
| A landing page for my yoga studio | A landing page for my yoga studio in Austin to get new students to book a free first class. Include a hero with a booking button, a section on our three class types, testimonials, and an FAQ. Calm and welcoming, with earthy greens. |
Tip: Once your page is built, ask Piper to edit what's there instead of starting over. Editing an existing page uses fewer credits than building a new one.
What's next?
Once your page is built, here are a few things you can do:
- Customize your page: Open it in the builder to make changes yourself, or ask Piper to edit it for you.
- Set up a Brand Kit: Save your brand colors, fonts, and voice under Assets > Brand Kits so every page stays on brand.
- Connect your tools: Send leads to your email platform or CRM from Manage > Connectors.
- Publish your page: Publish to a free Leadpages address, or connect your own domain under Manage > Domains.
- Run an A/B test: Test different versions of your page to see which one converts best.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to use AI to create a page?
No. Click the arrow beside Create and choose Blank page or From a template under Start without AI. You can also choose Start from scratch from the Actions menu in Piper. Building without AI doesn't use any credits.
How many credits does it take to build a page with Piper?
It depends on your page. Piper shows an estimate on the images step, before she builds anything, and shows how many credits were actually used once the page is done. Generated images use the most credits, while placing your own images costs nothing.
Is my page live once Piper builds it?
No. Your page stays a draft until you publish it. When the build is done, Piper asks where the page should live so you can publish it.
Do I need my own domain to publish?
No. You can publish to a free address on lpcontent.net. If you have your own domain, you can connect it at any time. Connecting a domain also publishes your page.
Can I change my page after Piper builds it?
Yes. Click Open in editor to make changes yourself, or tell Piper what to change and she'll edit the page directly. Editing is much cheaper than building the page again.
What if Piper misunderstood what I asked for?
Check the Here's what I've got card that appears right after you send your description. Tap anything that's wrong to change it before Piper builds.
Can I add more details after I've sent my description?
Yes. Type anything else you think of while Piper is building, and she'll fold it into the next pass.
Can I use a page or HTML I already have?
Yes. Paste a link or your HTML into the message box, or choose Upload HTML from the Actions menu to bring a file or paste code.
Can I add a new page to a site I already have?
Yes. On Piper's starting screen, choose Add a page to a site you already have, then pick your site.
Which tools can I build a page from?
Under Your tools, you can build from Google Ads, Meta Ads, Shopify, HubSpot, Mailchimp, Klaviyo, ActiveCampaign, and Salesforce. Connect the tool, select a campaign, and Piper uses that campaign's information to build your page.
What if I don't like the page Piper built?
Ask Piper to change what you don't like, or click Or build a different page to start a new build. A new build uses credits again, so editing is usually the better choice.
