Overview
The AI Page Builder lets you describe a page in plain language and have the AI generate the HTML for you. It is available on eligible plans and appears as a Use AI tab on the publish screen.
Opening the AI Page Builder
Click Publish Page in the left sidebar.
On the publish screen, click the Use AI tab.
The AI Page Builder opens as a full-screen split view.
The Interface
Left panel — Chat input where you describe the page you want. Be as specific or as open-ended as you like.
Right panel — Live preview that updates as the AI builds your page.
Credits — Shown in the top-right corner and bottom-left. Each message uses approximately 30 credits.
Exit — Returns you to the publish screen without saving. If a page has already been generated, you will be taken to that page instead.
Building a Page
Type a description in the chat input at the bottom of the left panel. For example: "A landing page for a coffee shop with a hero section, menu highlights, and a contact form."
Press Enter or click the send button.
The AI will generate the page and show a live preview in the right panel.
Review the preview. If you want changes, describe them in the chat — for example: "Make the hero background dark green and use a larger font for the headline."
When you are happy with the result, click Done (or Open page to view the live URL in a new tab).
Getting Notified When Your Page Is Ready
If you want to start a page build and work in another tab while the AI generates, you can opt in to desktop notifications so your browser alerts you the moment the build or edit finishes.
- Start a page build or edit request in the chat.
- While the AI is generating, a 🔔 Notify me when done link appears near the bottom of the chat input.
- Click it. Your browser will ask whether to allow notifications from HTML Pub.
- Click Allow. A brief confirmation message appears: "We'll notify you when your page is ready."
Once allowed, you receive a desktop notification whenever a build or edit finishes — but only when you have switched away from the editor tab. If the tab is in the foreground, the on-screen build progress already tells you the page is done.
The opt-in prompt only appears while the AI is actively generating. If you have already allowed (or blocked) notifications in your browser, the prompt does not appear again. To change your permission, use your browser's site settings for htmlpub.com.
Note: On macOS Safari, the notification uses the Safari app icon rather than the HTML Pub icon — this is a browser platform limitation.
Attaching Reference Images
When describing your page, you can attach one or more reference images — such as a logo, a product photo, or a brand mood board — directly in to the prompt bar. The AI uses these images as visual context when generating your page, so the layout, colour choices, and imagery stay consistent with what you showed.
To attach a reference image, click the image attach icon in the prompt bar, select your file, then submit your prompt as normal. Your images are sent alongside your text description and influence both the page brief and the final HTML output.
If you choose to publish an existing HTML file instead of using AI generation, any attached images are carried through to the editor chat so you can reference them in follow-up edits immediately after the page opens.
Tips for Better Results
Be specific about structure — mention the sections you want (hero, features list, pricing table, contact form, footer).
Describe the audience and tone — "professional and minimal" vs. "bold and colourful" will produce very different results.
Iterate — you do not need to get it right in one message. Ask for changes section by section.
Include your brand details — company name, colours, and key messages give the AI useful context.
Attach reference images — upload a logo, product shot, or inspiration image so the AI has a visual reference when designing the page.
Credits
AI Page Builder usage is measured in credits. Your current balance is shown in the toolbar.
Generating a new page with the AI Page Builder requires a minimum credit balance. If your balance is too low to start a generation, you will see a message showing your current balance, the amount needed, and a link to top up. You can top up credits from the Billing page, then return and try again.
Once a generation completes, the actual credits used are settled against your balance. Only the credits the generation actually consumed are charged — any unused portion of the upfront reservation is returned to your balance automatically.
Editing an existing page via the AI chat uses approximately 30 credits per message, but this figure varies on the complexity and context of the request. We encourage the use of a "New Conversation" when the context/history of the current conversation is not applicable to your current request, to reduce credit consumption whenever possible.
Availability
The AI Page Builder is available on eligible plans. If you do not see the Use AI tab on the publish screen, your current plan may not include this feature. See your plan details or contact support to learn more.
