A sales tax exemption certificate is an official document that confirms a business’ purchases are not subject to standard taxes such as sales tax, VAT, or GST. Only customers who are eligible for tax exemption status must provide a certificate or other form of documentation verifying their status.
The fine print
- All requests for tax exemption must be reviewed and approved by our payment processor, 2Checkout/Verifone.
- Tax exemption may vary depending on your country, type of organization, and local tax laws.
- Submitting your documents during the free trial ensures that subsequent charges are correctly exempted once approved.
US customers
All US-based users, new or existing, can contact Verifone/2Checkout to apply a tax except status to their account. If you’re currently on 14-day trial, you can submit your tax exempt certificate before your trial ends to ensure that no tax is applied once billing begins.
- Email your tax-exempt certificate and subscription order details to refunds@2checkout.com.
- Once approved, all future renewals on that order will automatically be tax exempt. If any transactions did go through with tax, 2Checkout’s team will be able to refund that tax applied.
Customers outside of the US
Users outside of the US may be subject to taxes such as VAT, GST, or other local equivalents, depending on their country’s regulations.
If you have yet to sign up for an account:
- During the signup process, check the 'I'm ordering for a company' box.
- Add your VAT/GST ID into the field that appears.
- Continue on to start your trial. The VAT/GST ID will be sent to 2Checkout, who will validate it. Once approved, future renewals will be tax exempt.

If you have already created your account:
- Email refunds@2checkout.com with your account details and attach your valid tax exemption documentation (such as a VAT ID certificate, GST exemption document, or other applicable proof).
- Once approved, future renewals will be tax exempt. If any taxes have gone through on previous orders, 2Checkout will be able to refund that.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why am I now being charged VAT when I wasn’t before?
Previously, our former payment system did not collect VAT from customers outside of the US. With our move to Verifone, VAT is now applied directly to the customer in compliance with tax regulations. If you qualify for tax exemption, reach out to Verifone/2Checkout support to add your VAT ID to your account.
Do I need to send my tax certificate/VAT ID again if I upgrade or downgrade my plan?
No, you won’t need to reapply if you change your Leadpages subscription. The tax-exemption status will be applied to your account as a whole, not to an individual subscription.
What happens if my certificate expires?
If your tax exempt status expires, all future renewals will have taxes applied. Previous charges that were already processed without taxes will remain unaffected. No retroactive tax is applied.
