There are a few ways you can publish landing pages to your server. If you use WordPress, we recommend using our plugin. You can learn more about it here: Installing the WordPress Plugin. Otherwise, you can upload pages to your server manually.
Every landing page can be published as HTML. The code contains a JavaScript snippet that essentially imports your page to your site’s server. Because the code is set up this way, you can…
- edit your landing page and update it without needing to republish
- collect analytics data (and view it in Leadpages)
- run split tests
Read on to learn more about publishing your landing pages as HTML.
Step-by-step instructions
Download the HTML
Follow these steps to get any page’s HTML code:
- Go Landing Pages in your account navigation menu.
- Click the Actions more menu for the page you’d like to publish, then select “Publishing Options”.
- Choose “HTML,” then click Download Dynamic HTML.
- Next, follow the directions below to upload the HTML to your site.
If you’re in the builder, click Publish or the Update down_angle menu then click “Publish Options”. From there, select “Other Publishing Options” and click Download HTML.
Once you have your page’s HTML, you’ll need to get it on your site. How you do so depends on your site’s specific setup, but you can learn about the most common options below.
Upload the HTML
Option 1: Upload the file to your server
The most common way to publish a page as HTML is to upload it to your server using an FTP client (such as FileZilla, Cyberduck, or Transmit).
You’ll need an FTP username and password, which you can typically find in your cPanel dashboard. Otherwise, you may need to reach out to your web host’s support team to get your FTP credentials.
Once you upload your landing page's HTML file to your server, you can start directing visitors to its URL.
Option 2: Paste HTML to your site
If you use a website builder (and don’t have direct access to your server), your best option may be to paste the HTML from your landing page to your site.
To do so, open the HTML file and copy the entire code.
Then, check with your site builder’s documentation or support team to determine the best place to paste your code. Most will provide a “custom HTML” or “code injection” field.
Keep in mind however, some website platforms don’t have an option to paste or upload custom HTML. Or if they do, your pages may be contained within your site’s overall theme.
You’re welcome to use your code from Leadpages in this way, but please understand that we cannot help troubleshoot or resolve issues with your specific site.
Frequently asked questions
Can I just point certain landing pages to my domain?
All webpages must be hosted on a server—a domain (and more specifically, a URL) simply acts as the location of a page. To use our HTML publishing option, you must have a web host in addition to a domain. Keep in mind, many domain name registrars also offer hosting services, so you can always check with your service for potential solutions.
We do offer the ability to connect your domain to Leadpages with no hosting needed. With this method, you can host landing pages on our servers, but make them accessible at your domain, e.g. www.yoursite.com/register
. Read our guide here for more information.
Can I use a 404 template on my own server?
You should be able to as long as your web host offers the option to customize a 404 page for your site. You’ll need to check with your web host for any requirements (such as what to name the HTML file).
Why is my published page appearing blank?
If you modify the URL of a page in your Leadpages account after uploading the HTML file to your server or embedding the HTML on your site, the externally published page will cease to function.
Within the HTML file downloaded for the page, the URL of the Leadpages-published landing page is referenced, and this URL is the one that had been set for the page when the HTML file was first downloaded. Any alteration to a page’s URL will result in the file being unable to locate the asset as you've moved it onto a new URL, resulting in a blank page.
If you need to adjust the URL for a page on Leadpages’ end, we advise that you obtain a new HTML file and replace the one that you previously uploaded.
